A: Since our inception in 1992, Alexion has focused our research and development programs on new approaches for treating serious and life-threatening diseases for which current therapies are either non-existent or inadequate. Beyond the initial indication of Soliris® (eculizumab) as a treatment for patients with PNH, we are working in partnership with investigators around the world to explore the clinical benefits of this first-in-class complement inhibitor as a treatment for several ultra-rare diseases, including kidney disorders, high-risk kidney transplantation, hematologic and neurologic diseases. More than eight clinical trials are planned or underway to explore Soliris for the treatment of at least five other ultra-rare disorders.
